Once your orthodontic treatment begins, you can expect to see us every 6 to 8 weeks. Most appointments will be less than 30 minutes when adjustments are completed fairly quickly, even though they are quite technical. There will be a few longer visits, too: at the beginning of treatment, midway through treatment and at the end of treatment.
How will I fit orthodontics into my schedule?
Whether it’s work, school or other important obligations during the day, everyone leads busy lives. Our patients are no exception! That’s why we have devoted considerable effort into designing our scheduling system. Here is what we want to do for you:
First, we would like to see you on time for your appointment. Your time is valuable-we respect it and do not wish to have it wasted waiting in our reception area.
Second, we would like to have enough time during each appointment to do the necessary procedures and plan your next visit.
Third, we would like to answer your questions, update your treatment progress and ensure you are happy with the care we are providing for you.
As you can imagine, a well organized schedule requires considerable structure with some necessary flexibility built into it. With this in mind, we schedule longer appointments during school and work hours and shorter appointments before and after school or work. This way we don’t reserve an entire morning or afternoon for one or two patients, but see many patients for short appointments instead.
What if I’m running late?
In a perfect world everyone would be on time, every time. But we know this isn’t possible and occasionally, despite your best efforts, you may find yourself running behind schedule.
When this happens, our intention is to value your time as well as ours and that of our other scheduled patients. We appreciate that you were able to make it to our office, and we will do everything we can to complete your appointment in and around our other patients.
Depending on the time available, we will do as many of your scheduled procedures as we can. If we require more time to complete all procedures, we will schedule another appointment as soon as possible to complete them. Since appointments before and after school and work are typically filled several weeks in advance, it will likely be necessary to make your next appointment mid-day to keep your overall treatment running on schedule.
What if I miss an appointment?
Any missed appointment should be rescheduled as soon as possible, so please call our office or request an appointment online immediately. Once again, since our after school and work appointments are filled several weeks in advance, it will likely be necessary to reschedule a missed appointment during the middle of the day. Numerous missed appointments will result in extension of your treatment time and additional fees.
What if I need to reschedule my appointment?
We appreciate the courtesy of 48 hours advance notice to change an appointment. We will try to address your preference for an appointment around work or school, but may need to reschedule during the middle of the day rather than wait for a more convenient time. Our goal in rescheduling appointments is to ensure your orthodontic treatment stays on track and on time!
What about visiting my dentist during orthodontic treatment?
It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every 6 months during your orthodontic treatment for teeth cleanings and routine dental check ups. If extra dental care is required, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure you are receiving the individualized care that you need.
